It is located on Place de la République, the former Kaiserplatz, and faces the Palais du Rhin. History[edit] After the destruction of the municipal library and the city's archives by Prussian artillery during the Siege of Strasbourg, the German Empire founded the BNU on 19 June 1872. The task of arranging its collections was given to historian and professor, Rodolphe Reuss. It became the regional library for the Reichsland Alsace-Lorraine, as, according to German tradition, every region should have at least one library. It was also an Academic library. The collections grew quickly, thanks principally to donations from all across Europe and the ...

National Library of France / François-Mitterrand Library - Architect: Dominique Perrault - 1989-1995 As an edition to the developing urban project in eastern Paris, the French National Library was built in hopes to be the most modern library in the world. The competition of 1989 that included projects from 244 internationally renowned architects was won by Dominique Perrault, who was only 36 years old. This project would be the defining design of Perrault‘s career. Specifically designed for it’s location in the Seine Rive Gauche district, the basic concept is composed of four tall towers that define the boundaries of an esplanade, which is hollowed out of the ground to create a vast forest-garden. The four beacon-like markers with an area measuring up to 350,000 m2 were constructed on a stretch of industrial wasteland, each one comprised of wood, metal, concrete and glass. They were designed to resemble four open books all open towards one another, to imply a volume and symbolic space. The establishment of the open square gives the notion of accessibility and availability, inviting the public to enjoy the square. It’s semi-industrial approach is obvious at every scale, particularly with the use of stainless steel. Different meshes of the steel are woven into panels to be used as coverings for walls and ceilings, as well as partitions and outdoor plant rooms. The monumental towers are draped in stainless steel, by the application of five meter high panels that are tiled to create the surfaces. This use of mesh is present on all levels of the building; in the research rooms, the technical ducts are hidden under a ceiling of mesh, which also serves to control the acoustics. In the reading rooms, a similar technique is used more decoratively, creating a wave-like effect across the ceiling. The conference room uses the meshes as stage curtains, the stainless steel falling in folds from the ceiling.

Not too hard here. Basically we travel to the library in France and avoid hidden trap to collect the papers inside of a chest. When I first did this quest I just manually disarmed the traps in front of the doors, but I noticed later on that there was a little hole to the right of the doors that disarms the traps for you. Derp... Anyway once inside, you'll notice little areas where it looks like ashes on the ground (kinda like someone was burned alive there... O.o) avoid them at all costs because they are hidden traps. Find a moveable statue to place over them or find a hole to inspect to disarm them. Once you get past the first set of traps head towards the door that requires a keystone leading to what seems to be the living room. If you read the note across from the double doors you just entered, it hints that the stereo will not only reveal, but disarm the hidden traps on the floor where the papers are stored. Grab them and turn them in for a handsome reward.

A rare copy of the first edition of Shakespeare's complete works is discovered in a library in northern France. Full Story: A previously unknown copy of Shakespeare's First Folio, containing 36 plays and one of the most valuable books in English literature, has surfaced in a library in northern France. Only around 230 copies of the book, first published seven years after the poet's death and now highly prized by scholars, are known to exist and the latest discovery makes it only the second in France. The book was unearthed by accident by librarian and historian Remy Cordonnier when he was carrying out research for a planned exhibition on the historic links between the small French town of Saint-Omer and the United Kingdom. "When getting into the book we realised quite fast that it wasn't an 18th century book but probably an earlier one. So trying to identify precisely the edition we used several tools," Cordonnier said on Wednesday (November 26). "Rapidly we realised that it was probably a First Folio," he said, saying he was proud to have brought it to light. The book includes renowned plays such as 'Hamlet', 'Romeo and Juliet' and 'The Tempest' but thirty pages are missing, including the title page with its iconic portrait of the writer. With no original manuscripts remaining, Shakespeare scholars frequently rely on subtle differences between extant copies of the Folio to make judgements about the playwright's works. "The first edition of his complete works is the oldest source for studying his plays so it's very important. We know that there were approximately a thousand exemplaries (sic - copies) at the origin, and there is only 233 now identified," he said. The book was authenticated by scholar Eric Rasmussen from the University of Reno in Nevada on a visit to Saint-Omer. The library already contains a large collection of rare works, including a copy of the Gutenberg Bible. The National and University Library (French: Bibliothèque nationale et universitaire; abbreviated BNU) is a public library in Strasbourg, France. The collections grew quickly, thanks principally to donations from all across Europe and the United States. But, even in spite of these generous donations, many priceless manuscripts, such as the Hortus Deliciarum had been destroyed and could never be replaced.[1] The present-day building, which is a work of architects August Hartel and Skjold Neckelmann, was opened in 1895. After the territory of Alsace-Lorraine had been reverted to France following World War I, the question arose as to whether or not this library should be renovated and reopened. After some hesitation, the French government decided to keep the library. The library now holds about 3,000,000 volumes, which is the second largest collection in France.[2] The collection contains, amongst other things, ca. 2,300 incunabula,[3] 6.700 manuscripts (plus 29,000 others from the archives – kept by the library – of the De Turckheim family, and several other thousands from the Alsatian Franciscan order)[4] and 5,200 papyri. Strasbourg is the perfect overture to all that is idiosyncratic about Alsace – walking a fine tightrope between France and Germany and between a medieval past and a progressive future, it pulls off its act in inimitable Alsatian style. Tear your gaze away from that mesmerising Gothic cathedral for just a minute and you’ll be roaming the old town’s twisting alleys lined with crooked half-timbered houses à la Grimm; feasting in the cosiest of winstubs (Alsatian taverns) by the canals in Petite France; and marvelling at how a city that does Christmas markets and gingerbread so well can also be home to the glittering EU Quarter and France’s second-largest student population. But that’s Strasbourg for you: all the sweeter for its contradictions and cross-cultural quirks 20170325_134433.mp4

Quimper Media Library Quimper is a town in north western France renowned for its 13th century Gothic cathedral and for its pottery and porcelain, manufactured there since the 17th century. An Ursuline convent dating from the 18th century has this year been given a modern extension. The convent has been transformed into a media library. Two of the media library rooms contain very ancient, rare books and here use has been made of the Frontline Shelving System in beech. The public sections feature the Classic Steel Shelving System with an intergrated lighting system that illuminates each shelf.
